Then the vet is incorrect. Cages do NOT make good enclosures for tortoises. The shavings also have to go. PLEASE give him a good 4/8' minimum enclosure, with a good earthy substrate.

I respect your opinion but i will prefer to listen to the vet on the first regard the shavings have already gone i will agree.
The vet is infact a reptile specialist and i will take his proffesional opinion.
Thanks for your help

I understand. The vet should know more than us. But this is not always the case. My vet for my tortoises specialize in reptiles. But she kept giving him vitamin A shots and many other shots when I first took him to her (she couldnt find out the issue why he wasnt eating or moving) until finally i soaked him and saw MANY parasites in the water after he pooped. Spent a LOT of money just to find out he needed a cheap deworming medicine.
She also recommended I keep my tortoise on paper and not soil or orchid bark. And that he should only have 10% humidity.
Clearly this is not correct.
Needless to say I will not go back to her.
While she did tube feed my tortoise and dewormed him, she had no other knowledge of tortoises despite being a reptile specialist.
It was actually Yvonne that told me my tortoise may have parasites (before i even saw the vet).
Although some of us aren't vets herE, we DEFINITELY care about you and your tort. Alot of the information comes from experience and learning from others situation.
Please reconsider that cage. We welcome you and your care for your tort!

P.s
My tort was in a glass cage before i built something bigger for him. Its not harmful. I have two Russian tortoises also :)

I am sorry for your loss too.

But if you want to get another tortoise, please read here in the forum about the right way to keep it. Here are the experiences of many people, not only from one VET.
