3 years ago my wife was given a sulcara tort that was injured really bad I think a pack rat or something similar chewed her front legs to the bones while she was pulled tight in her shell . We nursed her back to health and she is able to walk again with a limp as one leg is twisted pretty bad. She is really timid around anything that moves she lets out a hiss and slams her self up tight. I was finally able to rub her head a couple day ago but what can we do to help her come out of her shell and be more active around us.

I'm so glad that you were able to get her healthy again!

Yes, maybe try hand feeding her favorite foods!

And spending LOTS of time around her can't hurt either!

Best of luck, and welcome to tfo!

I take an animal like that and hand feed and also hold him against your chest while watching tv...frankly, I hum and rock kinda acting like it's a human baby. Talk calmly to it and and simply do that every day a few times...always hand feed first...radicchio works good as does cooked squash...
if you need to, wrap him up securely in a towel or blanket then hold him.
