Hi! I just got a new Russian tortoise about 3 days ago and all he does is sleep! I took him outside twice to roam and he loved it and he also ate for the first time out there. But all he does is sleep and burrow he won't even wake up to eat I have to then he eats then sleeps! Does anyone know what I can do to help him out? Thanks! :tort:

Hi Haydabear:

(Did we ever learn your name or where you are?)

Your tortoise's behavior is telling you what he needs. He needs to be set up in an outdoor habitat. He's uncomfortable in the house so he just stays hidden all the time.

If you give him time, he will come around, but it really would be better if he could live outside.

too cold? not feeling secure, so sleeping= hiding.
he might just need some time, but it seems like he like it outdoors.
where did you get him from ? store or person? what did they keep him in?
is it a adult or baby?

The experts on this site will give you a lot of good information, they have helped many tort owners.
Sometimes they hide at first because everything is new and they have to adjust.
However, do provide as much info as you can about your tort's history, set up, etc. Even pics can help
