Aloha I have a huge older Sulcata Turtle I adopted probably around 12 or 15 years old.I live in Maui Hawaii where temperatures stay between 80 and 100 occasionally dropping down to 60s..My male Sulcata lives outside and I built him a nice dark den that he likes to sleep in.Recently tho this last month or two he has been sleeping all day everyday
...I was starting to worry about him so I pulled him out the other day & offered him food but he didnt eat and went back into his den & is sleeping again...is this normal?
It seems like he is hibernating but iv read that they dont do that...
Any suggestions?

Something is wrong. What is the overnight low temperature in the den area you made him?

Does he live alone?

What size enclosure? What size is the tortoise?

They do not hibernate. That is correct. 100 degrees in Maui? Really? I didn't think it got much over the high 80s there?

My first impression upon reading your story is that he's not warm enough. You should probably send a temperature gauge down into his burrow to see how warm it is down there. You may need to construct him a heated shelter.
