My tortoise's damaged shell.

I'm sorry I don't know that much about my tortoise. I was weed eating about for years ago and I hit him and damaged his shell. I brought him home and fixed him up. His shell healed up and looked good. But know I noticed that I can see a dime size peace of bone showing. It looks like the shell chipped rite off. Can anyone help I really am attached to the little guy any help or into would be appreciated.

Hi James (or is 'James' your tortoise's name?), and welcome to the Forum!

Of course, you know, we're going to need to see pictures. Usually when you see white bone it means that new keratin and bone are growing UNDER that spot. It takes a very long time, but eventually that old, dead bone will flake off and new shell will be underneath.

What kind of tortoise do you have? I'm going to guess box turtle.

Yvonne I'd exactly right. Please post pics if you can, this way we can tell exactly what we're dealing with.
