Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone can help.

I noticed today our 6 year old Herman Tortoise (called Turtle or T-man!) had a bump next to his right eye, please see photos.

It appeared at some point over the last day it would seem. It doesn’t seem to be causing any discomfort or pain to him.... he’s eating heartily, stomping around like normal and taking all his usual naps.
He isn’t touching or rubbing it either.

the eye itself seems perfectly fine, it’s clear of any abnormality and seems bright and wide open...

After a little bath, the lamp seems to have subsided a lot, and just before bedtime tonight it seems reduced again.... hopefully it’s sorting itself out... however I’m nonetheless worried about it. Can anyone advise?

we are novice Tortoise owners, having adopting him only two months ago... so we are winging it really, but we are very dedicated to him.

Seems like we have seen this before on others. I can't say if I ever read what it was or what to do.
@Yvonne G will probably know.

thank you for replying. I did look about on other threads on here, so far it seems there are posts about sort of similar things, but also not exactly the same.
The beak also needs a trim badly, both the upper and lower beak.

Hi there,

As we recently acquired him we are learning ‘on the job’ as it were. How would we achieve this?

On a related note he is booked in to see a vet for a check up in a couple of weeks for a check over.

We have also introduced some objects into his home, such as a food slate as a way to try and give him something to rub he beak on.

Here's a similar recent thread. Your tortoise's beak is in a bit better shape since it's not pinching inward, but both the upper and lower beaks are overgrown:

It needs to be done with a dremel tool with a small sanding bit, most likely progressively until you achieve the upper and lower jaws coming together. This is something a tortoise-specific vet can do too.

Brilliant thank you for your help. We will give that a go. He has an appointment coming up soon, so we will speak with the specialist about it then also.
