Hi,
it's snowing here and I can't get out to a vet. My baby red foot, about 3 1/2-4 mos old, has been having trouble getting around his cage the past couple days as well as eating barely anything. Yesterday, I came home to him upside-down in his water dish and I though he was dead. I got him out of the water and he looked dazed for a minute, then continued on around his cage as normal. Well, later, he started walking very weird, lifting one leg way up in the air, then falling down on it and would walk around that way.
When we tried to get him to eat later, he ate half a small tortoise pellet (not the ZooMed) then freaked a little. I got him to calm down holding him in my hand and noticed that his weight is not what it was the day before and his plastron appeared to be slightly concave. I did get him to eat a couple pieces of turnip green though. At this point, he was also acting very weak and very slow to wake up.
This-morning, he looked and was acting fairly normal again. I gave him fresh mustard greens and romaine and went to work.
When I got home, Emmet was again walking around his enclosure and appeared to have eaten a bit of the greens I gave him this morning.
Tonight, my wife and I got him out to check on him and he was acting almost dead. I warmed him up a little (he'd been hiding under his log in the cool shade) and he started to move in that weird way again. We got him out and looked at his plastron again and it appears caved in down where his stomach would be. We are trying to get him to eat right now.
Is it possible that he got super-stressed from being on his back in the water (there was a large amount of poo in the water and on his underside so I figured it must have happened a long while before I got home and found him like that) and just evacuated his bowels completely therefor becoming very light in only a day and making his belly empty and suck in?
I thank anyone for any help they can give me, I'm planning on taking him to the vet as soon as i can.
