Hello! My name is Mandy and I'm from southwestern IL. Currently the proud momma to two dogs and two ball pythons. My boyfriend and I plan to purchase a Red Foot Tortoise, so I joined the forum for research and educational purposes. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi, Mandy!

You are at the best place to do your research on Redfoots (Redfeet?? LOL!)
Just kidding you...

We have many Redfoot keepers here, and in fact, I think they are one of the most popular species.

Are you planning on a hatchling, juvenile, or adult?

The most important recommendation I can make is go to a reputable breeder. Believe me, it will help you avoid a potentially fatal mistake.

Here are 2 links...the first is to our breeder list, and the second is to our vendor review page. Please check them out.

I have a Desert Tortoise, so I'll leave you and let Redfoot keepers chime in. They are very knowledgeable. Follow their advice and you won't go wrong.

I'll tag one...@Toddrickfll

Haha, Todd, you and Jamie posted while I was typing!...

Great minds think alike!
Mandy definitely make sure you find a reputable breeder. Getting a well started baby is most important. Not sure if it interests you but hatching your own Redfoot is an option too. I just did it in myself, checkout "Tortstork".

I'd prefer a juvenile, just because I'm new to torts and would like one who is a bit more established. Thank you for the links! I will absolutely research the breeders and vendors. I don't have a timeline so I'm definitely going to take my time. We have a room dedicated to the reptiles and have more than enough space for a tort to join the family.
