Screen top will let all the moisture escape...

Yup, covering the top will make it easier to keep temperature and humidity up at the levels that will benefit your tortoise (80s in both).

I use a Christmas tree storage box from Walmart. Tight-fitting lid, with access hatch at one end. Easy to cut holes in top for UVB light and CHE heater, too.IMG_5078.jpeg

thanks for the help. do you have any suggestions for a top that would work

Plastic sheeting on top fo the screentop, or some of the two walled plastic material they use for lawn-signs (both can be purchased at home depot or similar).

Another thing to note: the screen doesn't allow much UVB to penetrate into the enclosure.

I much prefer the bin to the mixing tub, but the lights may be a little too close to the tortoise????
