Hi, I'm Sarah. Momma to 5 humans, 2 dogs and now a baby sulcata!!!

We live in Valley Springs CA where we own 7.5 acres. My 9 year old son was running around in our field and found a baby Sulcata!! We have absolutely no idea where he/she came from or how he/she got there but we couldn't be more happy to give him/her a forever home. I'm here in hopes to do the very best job possible :) We have it in an open/shallow box with dirt, rocks, and cut up hay, a heat lamp, food bowl, water bowl, and a 1/2 of a tree stump hide away thing. I have since learned that this dry environment isn't the best so I'm going to get it all changed around as soon as I can. Right now we are calling him/her Tortie since we have no idea if it's a male or female. First picture is of my 3 year old (will be 4 in a week :() daughter tonight who fell asleep snuggling her Tortie, next is his/her little set up as we have it now and then just a couple of Tortie. :tort::<3:

Hello, Sarah, and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum.
Someone, somewhere may be missing a beloved pet.
It's a good idea to ask about, put up posters, check at the local vets and animal shelters to see if anyone has reported a missing sulcata.
Criagslist is another way to go, not giving away too much information as unscrupulous people will lie to get a free sulcata.
In the mean time check out http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/beginner-mistakes.45180/

A lot of reading, I know, but worth it to keep your beautiful new baby happy and healthy! :)

Welcome to the Forum, Sarah!

Someone in your general area has a pair of sulcatas that have laid eggs and babies hatched out. If the owner doesn't find them soon enough, birds will pick them up, then drop them hoping to crack them open. I'm thinking you've rescued a bird-dropped baby. Since Valley Springs is in NorCal, I doubt you've taken in a baby that was left from a female sulcata someone released, as she wouldn't have made it through the winter up there. But try to make an effort to find this baby's owner. If in the end, you are keeping the baby, then please read the pinned threads shown at the top of our Sulcata section.
