hi,
im new to all this but would love some advice. I have just got a hermanns tortoise who is around 2 years old after wanting one for years and spending months researching!!
Pebbles is just gorgeous, we have got her in a 4 x 2 ft table, with uv and basking bulb.
She is eating well every day and has put on 10 grams in the 2 weeks we have had her but we are just wondering how much she should sleep as she seems to sleep all the time, she only wakes and eats if i pick her up and soak her.
She is then lively for a bit but then goes back into the sheltered bit where she sleeps until the next day!
She also only seems to bask for about half an hour a day, but i thought it should be longer??
I would really appreciate any advice, there is so much conflicting info out there:(
We really love pebbles and just want to give her the best life possible :D
The temp under the basking bulb is 35 c, cool sheltered part 21 c and the rest is between 24 to 28 c :tort:

Hello and welcome.

Your basking temp is spot on :)

Baby torts do sleep a lot, just like other baby animals.

Torts are also very slow to adapt to change and it can take weeks for them to learn that everything is safe and be more adventurous. As long as she's eating and gaining weight, I wouldn't be too concerned just yet :)

have you read Tom's Beginner Mistakes thread which has lots of helpful advice.
