Hi all. My name is Gina. And Hank and I live in Sunny Florida. I'm Hanks 3rd owner. Hank's first owner was my uncle. Then it was my mother now my husband and I have Hank. Hank is 6 years old, didnt really grow much the first 3 years until my mother became his owner. Now my mother is moving to Boston, and Hank got passed down to us just a few weeks ago. We are unsure of Hank's sex, So Hank can really be a Hankette. So I'm really new to this and Still learning. :tort:

Yess. Originally i didn't want to keep him. But my husband always wanted a Tortoise, so i gave in and we kept him. And my mother had his feeding schedule down pretty simple. And I've just recently started researching and i have just fallen in love. It's so fun. My mom has him eating every other day. switching between a stalk of Romain lettuce and then food pellets that expand when you put them in water. And occasionally we put him in the yard and let him roam with our 4 year old pekingese. I know he used to eat Raspberries and some other berries of sorts.

Welcome! I am kind of new as well. You may want to read a few threads on the sulcata section of this forum. I have learned so much about my tortoise from these people. You should read a bit about diet in particular. Try some dandelion and other weeds. Also they love grass! Though be careful with fertilizers and fungicides. He looks a bit small for 6. If you get him a little sun and some graze he will expand right before your eyes!

Yes. He is small. 9 lbs and just under 9 inches. My uncle didn't feed him very well. And my mom said he didn't grow a lot during his first 3 years. But she said since we've gotten him, he's grown like a weed. teehee.

Hi Gina:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

Well, you've got a lot to learn about caring for sulcata tortoises. I hope we can be of help to you and help you make Hank's life better. Its a very pretty tortoise. Florida is a wonderful place for tortoises to live.
