Hello,

My name is Gaynor and I live in northwest England.

I bought my first tortoise today (Hermann approx 2 years old)

Currently struggling to come up with a name.

Ordered some seeds to grow weeds/flowers and have been enjoying picking dandelions with my daughter today.

Tortoise seems to be settling in well at the moment and is exploring his new surroundings.

I have joined in the hope to get some advice as there is so much conflicting information on the web Which is confusing.

I look forward to finding my way around the forum and getting to know you

Welcome!

There is a lot of very outdated information floating around out there, for sure.

This is a great spot to learn.

Hello and welcome to TFO from Kent, UK

You are correct that there is a huge amount of outdatedand contradictory information out on the internet and from pet stores and, sadly, from some breeders and vets too; we're glad you found us.

We are lucky to have species experts on TFO who have kindly put together care guides to help keepers give their torts the very best chance of living a long, healthy and happy life. With good care your tort will be with you for at least 50 years.

I suggest you read these

Beginner Mistakes

Care of young Testudo (written for Russians, but applies to Hermann's)
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/thread...or-other-herbivorous-tortoise-species.107734/

If you post photos of your enclosure and lighting, we are more than happy to cast an eye over them to spot any problems.

Hello, Gaynor, and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum. :)
Read through the links above which contain most of the information you need.
Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
And I think a great name would be Adam.

Welcome to the Forum, Gaynor! (I wonder if my street was named after one of your ancestors. . . I live on the corner of Shaw and Gaynor Streets!)

Hi @Gaynor B , and a very warm welcome to the forum.

Please post pics of your tort and his enclosure.

You can find a name for your tort on the net.
