Hello I’m new! I currently have two ornate box turtles, a water turtle, and a baby breaded dragon.
I’m needing help determining what kind of turtle is in the pictures. This is for a friend who bought this turtle from someone about three weeks ago. The seller said it was a water turtle but I don’t believe this is a water turtle as he has a dome shaped shell and “elephant” like feet. Any help would be appreciated so she can properly care of the turtle.D05BC848-F31F-43B2-826D-DB210A5AF7C6.jpeg65DFE3F5-E8B5-4D66-88C4-D257A1D6E5F6.jpeg8E3B1B24-235D-4E87-9ECC-47A4BFF02599.jpegB10B386E-0D99-4EDC-B1E2-B525379A0082.jpeg90C952D5-B997-4942-88BA-B20501EE8D97.jpeg

Here
Looks like a yellow mud turtle, which would be a common turtle in the Fort Worth area, and is indeed a water turtle. But as my wife frequently reminds me, I could be wrong...

Its back feet are not as elephant-like as a tortoise's feet would be. The back feet and the front feet of the pictured turtle are definitely the feet of a turtle rather than a tortoise, but I am not sure what kind it is.

It also appears to have a hinge going across the plastron similar to one of our Box Turtles, though it is not a North American Box Turtle. It appears that the anterior part of the plastron may be able to close. Is this true?

It could be a West African Mud Turtle:

It seems that this turtle and the west African both have the intergular scute and similar first marginal scutes.

Good call. I think you are correct.

@Kris444 Check the link TeamZissou posted. This is an aquatic turtle and should be kept in water rather than on dry land.
