Your substrate needs to be earthy. Those wood chips are too big to hold moisture successfully. Get fine grade orchid bark not chunks like that ... or coco coir

Both are far cheaper from a garden centre or online from somewhere like Amazon

Yup, I use coco coir on its own.
I find it excellent when it's kept moist and pressed down.
Others find it a bit messy.
