I have almost no experience with hinge backs. From what I've read, the typical "forest tortoise" set up suits them well.
Thanks, I was just taking a chance on you because generally you know about species that you don't keep.

Your tortoise is a Kinixys nogueyi - Western Hingeback Tortoise.

As far as setup, temps, diet, humidity etc, David Mifsud has pulled together a great document that will help. You can find it hosted on my website for download at the following link:

Near the end of the document there is a full layout of captive husbandry. Please read through it and reach out with any questions.

I keep mine on coco husk, mist often, provide clean water and keep between 65-85 degrees. They dont love it too hot. Keep indoors year round. Feed greens, zucchini, yellow squash, sweet potato, mushrooms as a staple. You can find a great Kinixys-specific blend as an addition at the following link:

There is also a ton of information on Facebook @kinixyscoop and @kinixyswg

I hope this helps,

Not sure where we are with this because there a ton of replies but the animal is more than likely K. noguyei. If it has 4 claws on each front foot, that’s what it is.
