Does this look like it’s going to become a new pad or “prickly pear”? How long does it take for a pad to form?

That's good, they do get water but not a lot as they are cacti. They seem to be thriving.

Speed of growth varies a lot. Depends on temperature, sun, soil compositions, water, and the overall "health" of an individual stand. I have some stands side by side, and one will take off while the other just sort of sits there, not producing much.

One pad is definitely developing faster and they are in the same pot. I guess it is a healthier pad.

Oh yeah! Your on your way! I planted 2 on 6/11/19. This is 7/15/19. The one in the pot did better, but the one in the ground had much more sun exposure.

The top photo was taken at around 8 am. The second was taken just now (22:39) the same day. It’s really grown since this morning and is taking the shape of a pad. Really cool!

Are these outside in the sun or a green house? If not they need to be to develop properly.

Update: they have really grown! To answer @William Lee Kohler, yes they will be going in our green house very soon as they have grown faster than expected.
