Hello tortoise forum!

So, I know a lot of people let their torts snack on prickly pear cactuses (opuntia indica) and its safe to feed em the pads and the fruits, I was just wondering if all/other opuntias are safe to feed the pads flowers or fruit of? If anyone has any experience in this it would be greatly appreciated. Particularly Opuntia Picardoi as I have one that's out of control and am always looking for ways to vary my pets diets.

Should be fine, but it's a very spiny one and spine removal is recommended.

Yeah, I would def remove the spines. And if my upcoming tort likes it I'll look into planting some of the spineless ones. Thanks!

I don't know that species, but I have several spineless types at my place and all are okay to feed.

I don't have a definitive answer for you, but I have never heard of an opuntia species that was toxic to eat.

Good luck with all those spines.

Would it be safe to eat it myself and see if I get ill and use that as a baseline for any/most plants?
