Greetings,

Beautiful day in the US Nation's Capital today and our Chesapeake Kayak Adventure club was out on the Potomac enjoying bright sun, blue skies and calm waters. Along with us were many painted turtles enjoying nice warm temperatures. Here's a snap of one that wasn't at all afraid of our boats.

Very nice. Looks like he has some sort of snail on his foot. I love it when they don't jump in the water when they see you.

That's actually a Redbelly turtle, Pseudemys rubriventris. Very cool! They are usually pretty wary- he must not have wanted to give up his position in the sun! ha ha!

And yes, it does appear that he has a leech on his hind right foot.
