Do your research! Know who you are purchasing from and where they come from. Look for a private breeder that sells healthy, captive bred animals. Stay away from wild caught imports. If the ad doesnt say captive bread (CB), then it is wild caught. These animals can be very stressed, have parasites, and disease. Plus it is not fair to the animal to go from a life in the wild to a life in captivity. I got two captive bred pancakes. One from a reptile expo and one from a private breeder. The one from the reptile expo ended up being very sick and cost me hundreds of dollars on top of the almost 200 I spent on him. The one from the private breeder (who I found on this forum) was very healthy and active. Worth the extra money in the long run. If you want a particular sex you will have to get larger panakes. You cant tell their sex until they have matured. Took me almost a year to find out that Robert is for sure a male. Here are a couple of websites to check out:
You can also occasionally find them on this forum or do some internet searching.
Good luck
