They lay eggs alright 
It just doesn't seem like there would be enough room inside a tortoise/turtle for that many large eggs. It's amazing. Makes you think that their bodies are just empty containers of air when you see that many LARGE eggs inside.
The eggs are tiny...but yes, that xray scared me
