Hey guys.
Sorry this is a bit long.
I have a beautiful horsefield. She's about 4/5 years old. I've had her around 2 years after she was bought for my nephew and they just couldn't look after her. They already have a Herman tort and he's thriving. He's never had any lights or heat and he's perfect. But she couldn't cope she kept digging down and sleeping a lot. So I took her. She's now in a nice big tortoise table and she has a heat lamp and a uv lamp. She's grown so much. She's always got a runny nose. I think she was badly bred as before I got her she was back n forth to the shop all the time with gooey eyes and runny nose. I give her daily baths with reptoboost and also put it in her drinking water. I also sprinkle reptavite on her food. Yet she's still not right. I've taken her shelter out to try encourage her to come out. And I often try waking her up to encourage her to eat. But she's sleeping most of the day. And hardly eating. Everytime I wake her up she blows bubbles from her nose. I'm really starting to worry now. I'm not sure where to go from here. Anyone got any ideas on how to make my princess happy again.

Hello,

Sounds like the tortoise was lucky you took it over.

I really suggest taking it to a vet.
It might be respiratory infection or related issues. It might need medication.

I took over one a few years back and she was like that. I took her to the vets and she had a respiratory infection and she had also got scarring in her lungs where she had previously had pheumonia. Luckily I have an excellent vet who is a keen tortoise keeper himself and with a lot of antibiotics, tube feeding several times a week and loads of TLC she recovered and is healthy and happy now. However, since then she has a tendency to runny noses at the slightest stress or bad weather, and I reckon she always will have.

So like others, I suggest take yours to a good vet ASAP and get him/her sorted.

Took my baby to the specialist round here. She's fine. Just gotta keep an eye on her runny nose. He said torts can get a bit like this in summer if it's really hot. But she seems so much better since I've changed her bedding to more of a soil so she can't burrow as much and I picked her some weeds from the garden which she ate so all is good. May need anti biotics for her nose but will check that out next week if she's still got it :)

Ive never heard of running noses because of the heat & it seems very strange to me. Runny noses come from a URI (upper respiratory infection) or stress. A URI can happen because of lack of heat or high humidity & dampness with cold :) Good luck.
