Sorry, I have just joined this forum & apologize if I break any posting protocols. Will explore the forum in great detail in the days to come.

We rescued a tortoise from becoming roadkill on a lonely stretch of 35N outside Dallas, TX. It looked severely dehydrated & so we brought it home. Will probably release it in a couple of days.

Does anybody know what type of tortoise this is?

Any inputs on specific species, gender id, tortoise care, etc are welcome.

Thanks,
Carol

Hi Carol:

Its a box turtle. There might be laws in Texas against releasing box turtles back into nature, even if it is indigenous to the state. Check with a turtle or wild life rescue in your area.

Looks like a 3-toed box turtle.
