Hello,
Firstly, I really appreciate any advice anyone can give me.
Secondly, please try and resist telling me that I should have found this information out sooner - it just wasn't possible!
My Dad has come home with a tortoise which a cousin has got bored of - we will give it a really good home, we just need a crash course on how to care for it.
Nobody knows for sure what breed he/she is. He/she's just over 3 years old we think.
My best guess is a Hermann Female? (I can see 5 claws).
What constitutes "Pyramidding"? Is this little one healthy?
It it's beak too long?

Thanks so much.

Welcome to the forum!
Regardless of what type it is (and it certainly looks like a Mediterranean tortoise, of which the Hermann's is one group), that chunky tail sure looks like you've got yourself a boy!
Taking care of your tort will partly depend on the climate where you are. What part of the world are you in? If you're in the US, what state are you in?

Welcome you are in the right place. Our community is very good and very helpful. Sorry, I'm don't know about other tortoises as much as other members. But they will help you for sure! Water, grass and weeds are always great for tortoises!

Definitely a hermann! There's a little bit of pyramiding on his shell that I'd keep an eye on! Also can you post a close up picture of its taiL! Bye!

Definitely an ibera. Their care is similar to that of a Hermanns, though. Consult any of Chris' care sheets for the basics of care. Hurl your questions our way as to more advanced topics not necessarily addressed by the caresheets. Chris has been keeping ibera forever, and I've had my male for over two decades now. You're very lucky. Ibera Greeks are the perfect introduction to the keeping of tortoises.
