please help with I.D.!!

A few months back I was looking to buy a tortoise, and I knew better than to buy from petco. I went to a reptile store a few hours away and found a tortoise being kept in horrible condition. The store employees didn’t know the age, or sex of the tortoise. They claimed it was a hingeback, but it doesn’t look like one. Could someone help me out with identifying its species and sex?

I’ve been keeping the temp between 80-90 degrees f and the humidity around 65. Just wanna make sure this lil guy is getting the best care it can. Franklins poop has been healthy and large lol, but its eating habits have been a little irregular.

That is indeed a hingeback tortoise. Looks like a young Kinixys spekii. Too young/small to sex for sure.

So this is Kinixys belliana imported from Kenya. It is NOT a Kinixys spekii- even though in many cases, they are being sold as Kinixys spekii. Unfortunately, they have been really hard to establish. Most have died, but a few have had good luck. Keep us updated. Also, it definitely appears to be a female. I'm seeing differentiation of my Kinixys nogueyi at 1.5 years- If it was a male and that big, it likely would have a much, much, larger tail.
