Hi there,
I recently purchased a Hermann's that was sold to me as a female from an online vendor.. I have a male already, and am concerned that this new "female", Germanita, may actually a male as well. The tail does seem a bit smaller than my male, Shady's, but is larger than my previous female's (she escaped their new outdoor pen and had a tragic run-in with a raccoon ?) and the opening looks more like the shape of Shady's. I do know that they need to be kept in larger groups when they become sexually mature, and am planning to obtain a couple more females. They have a large outdoor enclosure (which is now much more secure with deep fencing).
I do know that Shady has some significant pyramding. We got him from a family a year ago, and he already had a good amount started. And it hasn't seemed to improve much. I was struggling to keep the humidity up in his indoor Zoomed tortoise pen, and am hoping outdoors with some good burrows will help prevent further pyramiding growth.
I would very much appreciate any assistance. Thank you!
