Hi there,

I recently purchased a Hermann's that was sold to me as a female from an online vendor.. I have a male already, and am concerned that this new "female", Germanita, may actually a male as well. The tail does seem a bit smaller than my male, Shady's, but is larger than my previous female's (she escaped their new outdoor pen and had a tragic run-in with a raccoon ?) and the opening looks more like the shape of Shady's. I do know that they need to be kept in larger groups when they become sexually mature, and am planning to obtain a couple more females. They have a large outdoor enclosure (which is now much more secure with deep fencing).

I do know that Shady has some significant pyramding. We got him from a family a year ago, and he already had a good amount started. And it hasn't seemed to improve much. I was struggling to keep the humidity up in his indoor Zoomed tortoise pen, and am hoping outdoors with some good burrows will help prevent further pyramiding growth.

I would very much appreciate any assistance. Thank you!20200715_123808.jpg20200715_123558.jpg20200715_123747.jpg20200715_123721.jpg20200715_123701.jpg20200715_122055.jpg

Looks to me like you have a pair, Shady's a boy and the other's a girl.

Thank you! I think maybe Dinosaur (our previous female) just had an especially short tail and didn't have the large horn on the end of it yet. Both Shady and Dinosaur were named by young children by the way...
