No, the black greek are usually just a very dark Ibera. They will have dark skin as well, not the light golden color that this one has.

These are some of my Northern Ibera, considered by some to be the "Black Greeks". The offspring are lighter and darken with age. The adults are 9-10" when mature:

These are some of my Southern Ibera, from the southeastern extent of the species range. They're offspring are nearly patternless and usually bright yellow. They are very cold hardy almost as much as the Northerns. They do brumate too. As young and adult these rival any "Golden" Greek out there. The adults are about 7-8" when mature:

Below is a photo of some two year old Ibera, one each from the northern, southern and middle of the species natural range:

Here's Rafiki. To my understanding she's a testudo graeca terrestris. She was just short of 15 cm /6 in. and weighed right around 670 grams about 2 weeks ago. I'm guessing she's somewhere around 4-8 years old. Got her from petco and they had no idea. Reason I'm guessing that is she is still growing as you might be able to see in some of the pictures. And I have a feeling that the eggs she just laid were her first. She went to "poop" in her water and laid and egg, then climbed on her log hide and laid another. Then I found two buried in the substrate later. It's all a guess but I'd say its a good one. Anyways, here are some pictures of her:

Sorry for poor quality. My only camera is my cell phone's.

I don't really know his age or subspecies, but I have a guess that he is Middle Eastern and he could be 6-9 mos old. It is good to see all of the adorable Greeks, I hope to see more :)

What kind of substrate do you use? It looks amazing. Beautiful little tortoise as well!

Thank you:) I have something different on all 3 pictures, so I'll tell you what is in each. 1- Zoo Med Forest Floor bedding which is cypress mulch... They should not eat this so I feed on a big flat rock or bring him out to eat on an old thermal baby blanket or towel (pic#2) which I wash and do extra rinses so no detergent remains. The 3rd pic is of coco coir in the outdoor pen (which the ants love!) but retains humidity better and is said to be ok if ingested. I am trying to decide if I will mix it with organic soil, but I don't know what brand to buy that is safe. The miracle grow organic potting soil has pasteurized poultry litter...IDK if that is ok, anybody?

These are my two, Apollo is the big male and the new little female (hopefully) was bred from Keith's. Still deciding on a name for her.
