prickly pear plant

would like to buy a plant that is aready started and growing good and i found this one that would grow outside were i live Opuntia humifusa Prickly Pear Cactus Plant is it safe i know thier many differant ones out thier he is the guys site http://easywildflowers.com/quality/opu.hum.htm[/url]

Hi Kylie. Looks like from the ad that this is well suited for your climate. I would also check with others on this site that live in your area. There may be another species that is "thornless." This one appears to have large thorns.

I have both varieties and will send some of each,the spined one, I have grown for over 40 years and know it will survive farther north, the spine-less one, I have only grown for 3 years, but seems to be as hardy as the old one. Len
