This is probably a dumb question. I adopted a Russian tortoise two weeks ago, both the food and water dish are in direct sunlight outside in his outdoor enclosure. Is it okay to have the food and water dishes in direct sunlight or should they be in partial or complete shade? I would really appreciate any input on this topic, thanks.

Its not a good idea to have them in the sun. It makes the food rot faster, and it heats up the water.

You also don't want to place them at the edge of the habitat because most tortoises walk the edges, and will track dirt and debris into the food and water.

Thanks a lot Yvonne, this is probably why I haven't yet seen him chow down on his food yet, hopefully.
