question about sexually mature males

Ok, so Mr T, our 8.5-9 year old male sulcata has been doing something lately. He has been taking out his penis, stretching up on all fours and then ejaculating. He has done this 3 times in the past few weeks that we have seen. Once on the back porch (this one did NOT make my wife happy!). So...is this just a "coming of age" thing that will pass or something that will continue with age? Thanks!

On-topic: I know males love to display themselves, but I haven't heard much talk here about taking it one step further like yours have.

Yvonne just mentioned this on another thread. She said they do this at around 25-35 pounds. None of my sulcatas have ever done this, but I did have a russian and a box turtle that did.

My 50lb male has only ever flashed when there was another tort present. Clearly not all of them are going to have the same experience.

could have been just pee and urates....i didn't look very close. i hosed it off almost as soon as it came out! i was just assuming it was what i thought it was.

now that you mention it...this all started after our herp society had a "reptile summer camp" for local kids. the people i got him from came and picked him up from me and used him along with their sully's to do a presentation on them. he was around his old nemesis, Trooper. this might explain why he has been doing it lately and not before. he's every bit of 45-50 pounds.

It's perfectly normal and they do grow out of it. Most males when they have it out for an extended amount of time, ejaculate. I've had male Hermanns and Egyptians do it and others that never did.
I've got plenty of male tortoises that I have never seen their penis.

Thanks for all the input folks. I figured it was normal, but was also hoping it was just a phase. Man, raising tortoise teenagers is messy work!!!

Some do, some dont. I think, like dogs, or other animals...some are more Dominant or have more Hormones then others.. having another tort around will make a male more prone to Display.
Just because youve never seen it,, doesnt mean it hasnt happened..

My Manouria males have never displayed, however, both of my Aldabrans have, and almost all the rescued male sulcatas that have come through here have. Never seen it on the desert tortoises or the leopards either.
