Some of you may remember Shelly; a five year old Russian tortoise. She went through a lot these past couple of weeks. When I first found out she had prolapse reproduction organs, many of you were very supportive and I thank you. Unfortunately, after many hours at the vet and a specialist every outcome to every option left was grim. She was put to sleep this morning. My family and I will miss her, and I thank everyone again for the advise and support.:(

I feel for you. It's so hard when we lose an animal we love like our children. You did the most compassionate thing for her even though it pained you. I'm glad you are here with us:)

I'm so sorry she didn't make it through. It sure wasn't for the lack of trying. You did the right thing all the way around. Remember the good times. Rest in peace Shelly.

I am so sorry. :( I just went through this a few months back with a Russian female that was given to me with a prolapse. I don't know if it will make you feel any better, but from what I have learned odds are very much against one making it past this. I know you went above and beyond with her and I like to think she knew that too. *hugs*

Thank you. It does make feel better, and from what I have read, prolapse reproductive organs happens a lot to female Russians. At least I know Shelly is not hurting anymore.

Thank you again everybody for your condolences. We laid Shelly to rest on Saturday on my late grandmothers 75 acre farm. We were also moving everything out of her house that day. All my childhood and most of my adult life we would look for tortoises in the woods, so doing both things on the same day was a symbolic emotional closer.
