So I put a clutch of nine leopard tortoise eggs in the incubator on June 17th.
I expect(ed) them to hatch in October, but when I checked on the humidity of the incubator today, I was shocked to see one of the eggs was hatching and a little tortoise head was sticking out of the egg.
Since it had only been 80 days, I was a little worried something was terribly wrong so I quickly but gently removed the egg and the little baby opened her eyes and carefully watched me. My daughter helped me set up a brooder box really quick like and the baby eventually removed herself from her egg. She's really active and seems just perfect.
The other eggs are still in the incubator without any signs of anymore hatching just yet.
Welcome to the world you rowdy and early little tort!
Updates to come.
