I would not be so quick to the vet....perhaps it is just a place where the tort "bit its lip" so to speak....I know there is no lip but perhaps flush the area and give it day or two....? @Yvonne GNot sure what is wrong, but my box turtle has a big red lump in her mouth. She is eating and swallowing. She doesn't seem to be in pain. The vet can't get her in until Friday. Does anyone know what could be going on?

The hardened spot on the top of the head is associated with MBD, little to no UVB and poor diet. The beak is a strange shape. It looks like it had overgrown into a duck bill shape then was trimmed back. I'd be willing to bet he has curly, long toe nails. Yes, a GOOD turtle vet visit is in order. Please let us know what the vet says about the lesion.from what I can see in your pic , that turtle could probably benefit from having a reptile vet look at him ………. he appears to have a few things going on ……...
Dr PoleThank you all for your responses. My friend checked on her and the swelling in her lip has gone down but she has an appointment today to check it out. As for the other things you mentioned - I appreciate the feedback. She was found after being hit by a car. She is regularly seen by a reptile specialist (one who has actually been featured on Animal Planet several times). She is perfectly healthy and they have no concerns. I appreciate everybody's responses!
no, he is not. I was just guessingHe is not a reptile specialist.
