Red foot Egg Hatching...Finally

Day 136 of incubation and my red foot egg decided he was ready to come out, or at least start.

Fantastic.
Mine took 4 days or more to emerge when they started pipping. So long that I posted a thread asking if it was normal.

Yeah, I just checked and there's no change. I assumed it would take a day or more. He's probably still absorbing the yolk.

He has turned, I assume to continue "unzipping" the shell as he pecks his way through.

My other hatchlings are over a year old now. I've forgotten how small fresh babies are.

Looks like he's almost done. He may have stopped to rest or continue absorbing yolk. It should be interesting to see how long he stays like this.

That's so cool. I had experiences with boxed turtles years ago. Baby torts or turtles are always preciously looking. Congrats!

Well he made it out this morning, but his yolk sack wasn't absorbed. I moved him to paper towels, still in the incubator. Checking 6 hours later, his sack appears to be absorbing nicely. He's otherwise strong and alert.
