I usually go by feel. If you pick him up and he feels like a shell full of water, then he's a good weight for his size. If he feels like he's full of feathers, he's underweight.

There is actually a formula for recommended minumum weight for a tortoise- the Donohue Ratio-

Shell length (Straight-line Carapace Length) in centimeters, cubed, times 0.191 gives you the recommended minimum weight in grams.

6" is 15.24cm, cubed is 3539.6, times 0.191 is 676 grams. A more accurate shell measurement would give more accurate readings, but this is a good start. You said it was 910 grams, so is well above the minimum recommended level.

Ha! You'r just lucky I did not remember it and write it as 190, then chew you out for an underweight animal! :)

Sorry i have to agree with Mark on this one
900 grm 6"scl seems heavy to me .
Archie is 5 3/4 scl @ 450 grms & Edith is 5 1/2 scl @ 475 grms .
My torts are probably on the light side due to living outdoors in a 12x12 enclosure with plenty of exersize.
Not saying this is a bad thing it just sounds a bit over weight compared to my 2 redfoots .
Bubba is 7 1/2 scl @ 1150 grms.( He is my largest male)
Does your tort have an outdoor enclosure?
Can yor recheck the scl & weight?
Mike D.

Unless you fed him his own body weight in stuff, it really does not matter. However, weighing him under several different conditions, about once a month or so, gives you more accurate info than just once in a while- then you can look for trends.

I did not mean my reply about the 190grams weight to be evil, just a lighthearted poke at my inability to transfer numbers sometimes.
