Hello! I’m absolutely thrilled to be picking up my box turtle, Fisher Cat, today! We are so lucky to have tons of wild turtles in NC, but that also means lots that are sick or injured. NCSU has a fantastic turtle rescue program within their veterinary school. They take in sick/injured box and water turtles, give them the medical care they need, then have local volunteers foster them until they are ready to be released back into the wild. They also find permenant homes for the turtles that won’t be able to survive in the wild due to their injuries. After months of waiting, it’s finally our turn to foster one of these monsters!
We currently have an adult redfoot (don’t worry, he and Fisher Cat will not be hanging out together), but this will be our first box turtle. I just wanted to say hello and share my excitement! I suspect pictures will follow later....
So glad to have TFO (i.e. you all!) as a resource for research and the questions that will come up. Thank you!
