Hi im new to the forum. I have just rescued a 5 to 8 year old russian tort. He is extremely shy and i was curious if any one has experienced a rescued tortoise and if they ever truly get used to a new home. He was taken to the vet right away she was surprised he was alive! All the blood work comes back tomorrow. We will find out if he is even going to survive:(.

Welcome! What is wrong with him that he may not survive or that made the Vet surprised he is still alive?

Congrats for the rescue, hope all is well with him. If he is feeling that bad, it may be the reason he is so shy. Get him back on his feet, give him to get used to you and his new home and I bet he falls head over heels over his hero rescuer:D

Welcome to the forum!
It all really depends on the health, and personality of the rescue. Hopefully he fits right into your family and is ok :)

She said that he had some signs of of possible kidney and liver failure due to his over grown beak skin condition and shell. She also said it could just be years of neglect im doing everything possible to help him. He was sooooo dehydrated. i soak him 3 times a day and a whole list of things she told me to do.
