Dog rescue friend just forwarded the info on this guy. Russian tortoise, available at Orange County Animal shelter.

If I was still in so cal I'd give him a home. How does a tortoise end up in a shelter?

He looks pretty healthy, probably a pet that walked right out the gate or climbed to freedom. Someone found him and turned him in I would think

I thought they only do drawings on Wednesday for exotic adoptions....at least that's what their website says

Aww. :( Yeah, I had wondered about that--I doubt the shelter workers know how to sex tortoises.
