Sex and confirm Russian??

I'm getting this lil guy Tuesday, can you tell sex from this pic? The lady giving it to me says it's a male that she had for 10 years, I didn't ask if she got it from a breeder or store I just assume a store. Anyway she says it's a male but it looks big

It is a Russian. Sex, can't tell by this pic. Not a bad looking tort. Congrats.

Looks like it's 7 inches in shell, anyway I'll post pics once I get if home Tuesday

It does help. I'm pretty sure it's a male, but if you have a closer shot it will be easier to tell.

He/she is very big, I was thinking girl too based on size the woman who gave him her to me says boy, so idk all the pics in this thread are the same tortoise

It's still looking male to me. I have a female and the tail is different, but I suppose every tortoise is different.

Thanks Tom, the lady I got it from says she's had it for 10 years, she's too old to take care of it. She kept it with 3 box turtles for the past 7 years or so

The only reason I keep saying it's a male is because it's a long slit for the poo-poo. It's not just a big round hole. It's more V shaped. But like I said, I'm not positive.
