Sexing

Hey guys and gals. What is the average age that you can tell the sex of your tort? Specifically redfoots. I know how to tell by the underside of adults but when does it become apparent? Or is there a way to tell sooner?

not sure about age but my guess would be between 3 and over years old.
however i often have read up that:

"You are able to sex your tortoise when he or she is the size of 10-20cm (3-4 inch)"

Wow, that sounds small but I hope it is true.lol. I need to study up on it more.
