I am beginning to realize my 4" redfoot has shell formed strangely. If you see rhe shell at an angle it slopes/divots morw than it should and the small scutrs that encircle all the larger scutes on the carapace are thick but not pyramding i dont tgink. DOes mbd cause shell deformations?

Please excuse typos sent from phone

Hey harley ~ I don't have any answers to your question - I'm sure if you post pics, there will be somone along (likely more than one) willing to give their thoughts and opinion..

Yes, you can tell MBD by looking at the shape of the shell. But we'd really need to see pictures to tell you for sure if that's what's going on.

I finally got the pictures....phone pics are the best I can do now.... The divots I am seeing is where the shoulders are and should his shell be more domed it looks flat.

Right now he a little more than 3.5" and I have had him since he was 2" hatchling more or less.

A crease at the back of the neck is common from being folded up in the shell.

Normally you see a sloping off over the hips with MBD.

How long would this crease last? Shelby was hatched September 09.

Does anyone know how long the divots and creases will stay? The concept of the shell straightening out at some point is strange to me.

Depending on how the shell is developing, the crease may persist to some degree pretty much for a really long time.
