I was able to ZOOM in pretty good and I see nothing unusual.Hi! I don't think you need to worry, but this might need some attention.
Are you a rescue organization? This tiny hatchling certainly should not have been sold so young!
Anyway, here is a care sheet for redfoot. If you are not familiar with hatchling care, he needs to be in a closed chamber that is kept around 85°F day and night, and humidity above 85% all the time.
I would suggest keeping him on paper towels instead of substrate until the scar is completely healed. It's hard to see in the picture, but are there 2 spots, one in the center and one at the bottom that look inflamed? If so, maybe a tiny dab of antibiotic ointment would be helpful, but only if it looks raw.
@ZEROPILOT
It's normal, this tortoise is very young and shouldn't of been sold yet.Does this belly look like I should be concerned? I realize it's yolk sac it's super young, I just got him about a week ago and just want to make sure I'm not messing anything up. Just hoping it's not rot....
You should be fine. Just keep up the humidity and give this little guy/gal soaks everyday for about 15-20 min. At least you'll know for sure this tortoise was started correctly because your the one doing it!We have rescue animal, including a 650 pound rescued meat hog, but are not an actual animal rescue. I do realize he is super young now but am not going to return him so that someone else can deal with it. He has che, t5 ho UVB bulb, cypress mulch bedding, hes been eating dandelion greens, radicchio, endive and papaya with every other day calcium supplements. His thermostat is keeping him at 84. Like I've said, I have lots of experience with all sorts of reptiles and amphibians, even with breeding when I was a young teen. He hasn't really gained any weight in the week I've had him, sitting around 28 to 30 grams. He sleeps a lot obviously but is vigorous during his baths and when I put him back in. He eats whenever I put him in front of food, do wish he ate more though. Is definitely a papaya cherry picker when it come to his food
Your parameters are actually pretty decentOh, and his enclosure isn't technically a closed chamber but it's capped with plexiglass with holes just for the light and heat, has a terra cotta waterboel with some pebbles in it so it's not too deep as well as 2 terra cotta pot hides on both sides...even though he'd rather bury himself in substrate. Humidity is usually around 70 percent and up with misting, it's hard to keep super high humidity here in Canada
He is way too cute. Lookin' good!!Sooooo...I'm actually super proud of how this little tort is doing! Now up to 140 plus grams....up from floating around 30ish grams when I purchased him. I keep his humidity on a controller as well as his temp so he's constantly floating no lower then 80 percent humidity to highest 91 percent, inbetween 82 to 85 ambient temperature, plus daily soaks, eating a well balanced diet and thriving! So happy how alert, bright, and well he's doing with 0 pyramiding. Figured I'd post some updated pics and see if everyone else agrees lol
