Please HELP! My male cherryhead seems like hes gasping for air. His lungs sound like gurgling. Stopped eating for about 2 weeks now. Ive been soaking him three times a day in warm water, Heat , proper humidity, Baytril shots. Nothing seems to be working? Any advice??

Try giving him a baby food soak to get some electrolytes and nutrients back into him. Simply put some carrot/squash/sweet potato baby food in the water (bird vitamin water would work too) and let him soak for a bit. Yvonne, one of the moderators here, could provide the best insights with this. How long have you been administering the Baytril treatments? If it's been two weeks and he's showing no improvement, I'd get him back to the vet. If it's only been a few days, give him time and TLC.

Have you seen a vet? RI's can be very serious, and are caused by a virus, so cares are not the direct cause, although poor care can make an animal more susceptible.

Don't forget, Baytril is an antibiotic- it does not work on viruses and is given to prevent secondary issues that would weaken the tortoise.

You should be practicing good nursing care in the meantime- quiet, warmer temps, clean, etc. to boost the immune system as well as offering the Baytril, etc.
