I'm going to pull a bunch of stuff out of my neglected garden tomorrow and was wondering what might be safe to feed my emys. The only thing I know they can eat from here are the elephant-ears that they get a leaf or two of most days.

This vine is growing everywhere and on everything. It sometimes has little red/pink flowers.

We call these redbuds from the little red flowers they get on the branches, not sure if the leaves would be safe.

I've got these plants that I think are canna but have never flowered.

I don't know what this is but looks to be some type of aloe I inherited from a friend.

Sorry for the bad picture here, but the batteries were shutting my camera off so I just took one last shot of the wildest area.. see anything in here that'd be safe to give them?

You have quite a diverse horticultural area! The only things I recognized were the Oklahoma Red Bud tree, the canna lilies and the aloe vera plant. I have a redbud in my desert tortoise pen. They never eat the leaves, so I'm taking it that they aren't edible. I don't know about the cannas, however "they" say that lilies are toxic. However the Manouria CAN eat quite a few different things that are on the toxic lists. ANd lastly, the aloe is edible, but it give them pretty runny stools.

Thanks you two. I'll just grow the aloe for my own enjoyment and keep trashing the trimmed back red buds. I managed to find the vine after googling "climbing vine red flowers florida" and a lot of sifting through information/pictures.

They call it coral vine, Antigonon leptopus.. the search continues to find out if it's an appropriate food source. I'm hoping it is cause it grows incredibly fast this time of year and the elephant-ears are nearly depleted. I tried offering some grape leaves and they only showed a minor interest - just a few timid bites each to be polite and not hurt my feelings I think. :D

the Akismet banned me for spam.. I think maybe because I tried to link a couple websites with pictures of the vine and the bot didn't approve. Anyway, I'll avoid links from now on!
