Sphagnum Moss - safe to use?

I got refunded and they told me to keep the moss as well! Which is cool, if I can use it. Will my tortoise be safe?

Well, I watched him for a couple days and he didn't try to eat it, but he's a strange tortoise because he only eats things I put on his plate. I thought he might be scared to find his room completely filled with this stuff, but this morning I found him there digging it up
