Hi, my turtle has the same problem with a pyramid back and soft shell, I have got a uv light but was told that it can't penetrate through the glass top, so I have to remove the glass, I also put him outside a couple of times a week but it's still soft. Please help me, can I give him a vitamin supliment to help this and will it matter if the tank has no lid ??

What kind of turtle?

If your UVB light isn't newer than 6 months, then it probably isn't putting out any UVB. They get old after a while and even though the light still shines, they don't put out any UVB. As you may or may not know, calcium (not vitamins) works in conjunction with UVB/vitamin d3, so you need the UVB in order for the calcium to work.

Not having a lid depends upon what the lid was there for in the first place. Do you want to keep the cat out? Do you want to keep the turtle in? Shoot us a picture.
