It is raining today, and this morning Dash, an almost 4 year old male Sulcata, who has been having "poop" problems, was out in the rain. I brought him in to soak him in the tub and noticed this crack, which was not there when I soaked him outside in the sun two days ago. The temp is just fine (upper 80s) in his hide.

I called our vet but they cant see him until Friday (its Wednesday). I'm worried that he is so constipated that its backed-up.

Any thoughts? See pics

@Tom or @Yvonne G should be able to help you. Is there any blood?

We see this a lot when the light/heat source is too close to the carapace. It looks like the new growth has been burned.

This seam is possibly infected by a fungus or a bacteria. The split is not related to constipation.

To me it looks like the two scutes were previously “stuck” and are now growing normally.

If this tortoise is living outside, here are two different night box strategies with safe and effective heat sources:

Thanks everyone. Making some changes to his habitat to help him out. Taking him to the vet on Friday.
Be very careful taking to the vet. Most don't know what they are doing with tortoises and can do more harm then good
@Yvonne G and @Tom can suggest what to not let the vet do or give.
