I doubt if it was done on purpose. The turtle swam through the plastic ring when he was a baby and he grew around it. More than likely a wild turtle.

Well, you can clip off the ring, but who knows how long it would take for the turtle to ever grow normal. Probably never.

So love the first pic. Made me laugh. So hate the second pic, so sad. Why can't people take care of their trash.
I'm sure it can't be corrected at this size of his life. If it would have been found a log time ago, it may have been able to grow a little more properly, that with time, may not have been noticeable. I'm sure at his size now, there is not much correcting that will happen.

Poor guy!! That's why I always cut those plastic things they put on bottles!!!, how hard is it really to dispose of garbage properly. Sorry,,, needed to vent!! That picture was very sad.

I once found a RES that was like that. Nothing was around him anymore though. I will see if I can find a picture but I highly doubt I can. I caught him and kept him for a few days before letting him go in a nearby creek. He seemed fine but I agree this is terrible, especially if it's done on purpose.

That turtle is at a zoo in the US. A zoo worker found him and took the band off and he is living happily. But he can't hold his breath as long and can't going his shell.
