Temps are starting to drop here in North East Texas, it’s been getting in the low 50s at night and 60s during the day. We’ve had a ton of rain too... being Texas it could be in the 80s/90s next week but the tortoise cabin is getting its first test. So far so good; it’s been staying at 75 at night and 90 during the day. I hate he stays in there all day but I know it’s best for his warmth. But he honestly hasnt gone to the restroom much since the temps have dropped. I will put a tub of warm water in the house and let him soak for 30 minutes to an hour a few times a week. He still eats everything in sight as soon as I put it out for him. This is will be his first winter outside. He’s bumping 5 and a half-6 lbs currently and right at about 10”

At his size, he is more susceptible to cooling down fast, which could be why he is staying indoors. Charlie stayed in for weeks at a time one winter until I bumped up the temperature. It could be that 75 is too cold at night. Charlie's box stays above 80 most of the time. He comes out nearly every day, even when it is really cold, even if only for an hour or two. But he is much bigger and I'm sure it takes a very long time for that cold to reach his center. The days he doesn't want to come out are when it is overcast.

Thank you that’s what I was afraid of. I will put another night he source in his house. The single CHE isn’t doing the trick for his size house.

You should probably get a RHP or a radiator, since you'll probably need one or the other sooner or later.

Yes, I’m getting a radiator for the house. One flaw about his house is that it has a high ceiling so the heat rises...

I think we have found the next tortoise lover of the family. She absolutely adores our tortoises and screams in excitement when she sees them and immediately races over to them. She’s obviously watched closely as not to stress them out. But she loves to pat Spur and he has gotten used to her and continues to enjoy his snack as she “loves” on him. Her face says it all :) IMG_3216.jpg
