Hello everyone! I'm linking my Facebook post in hopes for any advice yall have to give. I've filed a police report after talking to police for 3 days giving more and more proof -literal hours of security footage-. They have finally actually filed the report. This is a local business that stole her from my literal driveway and left her in a work truck - windows up - for 45+ minutes. They breed chickens, rabbits, and dogs all housed in one small "dog run" kennel. They are housing my tort in the same "until owner can be found".
While of course I just want my tortoise home with me, I want charges pressed against these monsters and have no clue what to do or who to call. Please help me not only get her home; but shut her backyard - disgusting conditions - MILL breeding opp down. Along with making sure they pay for what they've done to my7 year old daughter and I.
updating the post as I gain more info or traction. Feel free to share if you're local as we have been calling all shelters/rehabs/rescues 3 states wide to ensure they're aware of the situation incase they decide to surrender her. Doubtful, but we just wanted to check every avenue.
Here is a pic of Sora Sulcata and also the post made by her captors in front of my literal driveway with my neighbors tree in the backyard. They lied when claiming to have "asked neighbors" and my security footage proves it. He puts her in the truck for 45+ minutes, then the gf comes and takes her home. Insane business practice. How disgusting, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this.

Obviously this isn’t the BEST option but…steal her back?…

I would LOSE MY MIND if someone took my sully, Leo. He joined our family 20 months ago - just showed up on our front porch late one afternoon, and was still there the next morning. We really did try to find his owner; he was only about five inches long, had some bad pyramiding, but seemed okay. One lady claimed him, but he showed up again on our back porch the next day, and since the lady was walking my street looking for him when I gave him back, I didn’t get any contact info… she had to be a local neighbor but I couldn’t find her and no one responded to the posts on SM or to the flier on the mailboxes.

Im hoping you were able to get him back, @MandyJones - he’s a gorgeous little guy, and it’s beyond awful that they just left him in a hot car for 45 minutes. If someone did that here, I am certain the tortoise wouldn’t make it. Sending positive thoughts your way.

Lots of obvious questions, but did you show up on their front door and say “HEY, thank you for finding our tortoise!”

Or, go to the police, tell them to escort you to their location and help you get it back.

Not very smart of them to post pictures saying they “found” a tortoise. It’s not like Sulcatas are native there.

It should be really simple. A receipt might help for the police side of it. And the pictures to boot. How dare they even think they are trying to help the loose tortoise.. People's dogs get loose too. That doesn't give people the right to take them home and keep them. It's theft. Good luck and 🙏🤗
